For years the Tokaj was known as the wine from the Tokaj region in Hungary, but thanks to its good flavour it began to spread throughout the world and other countries adopted on their labels the name Tokaji when their wines were not there. This lead to this typical Hungarian wine being  recognized as protected designation of origin since 2007, so producers outside Hungary can't use this name. It's usually a sweet wine but dry ones are also produced.
