Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and one of the main cities and modern ones in Southeast Asia together with Singapur. Kuala Lumpur is not a city very know for its touristic offer and many travelers prefer to get lost in other nearby ities, but the ones who decide to stay in this amazing city they can enjoy of the cultural mix and the stunning skyscrappers. Also, Kuala Lumpur has grown quiet rapidly in the... last years and it has become a town full of contrasts where the new is mixing up with the old. In it there are mainly Malaysians, Chineese people and Indians, but in its streets you will find people from almost all around Asia. The main popular landmark in the city are the Petronas Towers, the twin towers which one day were the tallest of the world in 2004, but nowadays are just mixing with many other futurist skyscrapper. Kuala Lumpur is a vibrant city, quiet chaotic as well like most of the cities in Asia and at the same time modern.

Kuala Lumpur Overview

Language

The official language in Malaysia is the Malayan. This language is widely spoken in many Southeast Asia countries, and it is similar than the Indonesian language. Due to the mix of cultures in the country, the Malayan has received some influences from other languages like from the Portuguese and the English from the Colonian era, so that’s why some of the words are similar than in these languages. Even that, it is impossibleto understand it if you don’t have some basic knowledge of it, just try to speak slowly in English.

Weather

Kuala Lumpur has a hot weather during the whole year with lots of rains very constants, specially during the monsoon season. The avarage temperature usually goes from the 20º C to the 33ºC, always with a feeling of heat, specially strong during the humid months. The drier months are June and July, even almost every afternoon it uses to rain. The monsoon season goes from November to February in the region of the Malaysia Peninsula and it is normal and usual that Kuala Lumpur can suffer some floods.

Money

Ringgit (MYR). The Ringgit or also the Malaysian dollar is the official currency in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is a modern city so it is very easy to find ATM’s and banks everywhere. If you want to make a good currency exchange it is probably better to do it in a bank.

When to go

The best moment to visit Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur is between March and October, so basically out of the rain season. During these months you know for sure you will have less humidity but maybe a hotter weather. If you want to see the country when the landscapes are top beautiful, then you have to do it just after the rain season, when everything is very green and temperatures are stil a bit mild.

Days

2-3 days. To see the capital of Malaysia and its main touristic attractions you need 2 or 3 days maximum. With this time you will have enough to walkthrough the main neighbourhoods, get to know various cultures and visit the main landmarks and must-see attractions.

Store Hours

Many shops in Kuala Lumpur don’t follow a strict timetable of when they open and close, but most of them use to open around 10h and close around 22h at night, even in some regions the shops can be open until later.
