Pierniczki is one of Poland's traditional cakes. They're sponge cakes from ginger, sometimes filled with mermelade and covered in chocolate. The first bite usually tastes odd but after the second or third it grasps you. They're often served to accompany tea. A different variety are Paczki, yeast donuts filled with things such as strawberry, liquor, fresh cheese...
