The street represents an original Nabataean creation and it is the very center of Petra. It is basically in ruins, because it was several times damaged by floods. Nowadays, the Dam is protecting it to happen again. This amazing street was built around 106 AD and follows mostly the standard Roman pattern. The columns were originally built to give access to the shops.
