Helsinki Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko) is one of the most famous and important monuments of the Finnish capital. It's a huge white Lutheran cathedral with green domes built in the nineteenth century and it's located at the top of the stairs going from the Senate Square (Senaatintori). Its impressive neoclassical exterior coexists with a more sober interior with little decoration, only with an organ and golden lamps. The temple is open to visitors daily from 9am to 6pm and until midnight in summer.

In the same square, the so-called architectural heart of Helsinki, the statue of Tsar Alexander II, the Government Palace and the University Library can also be found.
