Venice's art gallery, Gallerie dell'Accademia in Italian, is one of Venice's largest museums and it houses the largest collection of Venetian art in the city. This gallery is one of the most important art galleries in the world.
The Academy was formed in the early nineteenth century with the aim of, bringing under one roof, Venice's most important works. Since then they have been receiving donations and making acquisitions and now they have more than 800 paintings. Among the most important pieces are works by Canaletto, Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese and Bellini. But forgetting the paintings for a while, we must say that the building itself is a work of art.
To avoid large queues is best to book a ticket online, especially if you want to visit it on a weekend or holiday.
