The capital city of Oman is a beautiful and interesting city to visit. With a population of round a million and a half, the history of Muscat dates back to the 1rst century CE, when it became an important port connecting the west with the east. The city lies in the Arabian Sea located in the Gulf of Oman, very near the Straits of Hormuz. Oman is a large country in the Middle East with a small population. Probably... it is due to the 82% of the country is desert. But there are many fertile wadis or valleys with underground water springs throughout the country. In Oman there are many forts, exactly the country has more than 500 forts and castles. In this country you will find a lot of coffee and dates, probably their favourite local combination.

Language

The official language in the Sultanate of oman is the Arabic, but many young people also speak fluently English.

Muscat has a very hot summer and a warm winter, but in general, it is very hot in the city.

Rial (OMR). To give you an idea, 1 euro are about 0,45 Rial OMR.

When to go

It is recommended to visit Muscat during the mild winter days, so from November to April. If you go in the summer be prepared for the super hot weather.

5 days. It’s totally recommended to spend at least 5 days in Muscat, taking into a count that there are many things to see around it, it would be better to spend around 10 days in Muscat and surroundings to really see a bit of everything.

Store Hours

Usually, the work days in Oman are Saturday to Wednesday, being Thursday and Friday the weekend days. Usually the working hours are from 9h to 22h, some shops close at the lunch time but most of of them don’t do it.
