Route 66 is located about one hour and a half from Palm Springs, and it is a classical which you have to visit if you can. Also known as the Main Street of America, it is one of the original highways in the US Highway System, established in 1926 and it originally went from Chicago to Illinois, to Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Santa Monica, covering 3940 km. It has been since then a very important symbol and icon of America, appearing in various tv shows, songs and novels.
