Pearl Harbor is the port that sufferen the Japanese air force surprise attack during World War II, on December 7th 1941. Over 2,000 soldiers died and it made the USA go into war. At present, the area is a commemorative center with museums and sights to the port where the tragedy is explained. USS Arizona Memorial is the highlight of the visit, a monument over the battleship USS Arizona where you can see the sunk ship. You can also admire the «Avenger», the submarine built to counterattack Japan after the battle. They're all entrance free but it's best to be there early to avoid queuing. You can visit other museums on Ford Island, but the ferry is not free.
