When we think about Jerusalem, we think about one of the oldest cities in the world. Located within the Judean Mountains in a unique location between the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean, this Middle East city is considered a holy one of the Abrahamic religions. It has always been disputed between Israel and Palestina to be the capital. Nowadays it belongs to Israel, eventhough the situation might be complicated to describe. Also,... when we think about Jerusalem, we see the shiny golden dome “Dome of the Rock”, the big Old Town full of old churches and stone buildings which are just breathetaking. The city was founded as the “City of David” in 1010 BCE, which means that Jewish people have lived there for more than 3.000 years. More than 100 battles have been fought for controling Jerusalem througout the history. It is a walled city, with 34 watchtowers on the walls and 7 gates for traffic. In Jerusalem, there are around 50 Christian churches, 33 Muslim mosques and 300 Jewish synagogues.

Language

Nowadays, Jerusalem is a part of Israel. Hebrew is the main official language used by the locals. But the Arabic is also very used by the Israeli-Arab citizens. You will always find somebody who speaks fluently English too.

Weather

In general, Jerusalem has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters. July and August are the hottest months and January the coldest.

New shekel or Israeli shekel. To give you an idea, 1 euro is about 4,16 Israeli shekel

When to go

It is recommended to visit Jerusalem during the mild winter days, so from November to April, or if you want to go during the summer, to go in June. July and August are the hottest months, so maybe it is not the best time to go.

Days

5 days. It’s totally recommended to spend at least 5 days in Jerusalem, taking into a count that there are many things to see around it, it would be better to spend around 10 days in Israel and surroundings to really see a bit of everything.

Store Hours

Usually, the work days in Israel are Sunday to Thursday, being Friday and Saturday the weekend days. Usually the working hours are from 9h to 22h, some shops close at the lunch time but most of of them don’t do it.
